Why just a website isn’t enough for your business

A notepad with the word website written on it

Back when businesses started going online, a website was enough. It did the job perfectly. But with more and more businesses competing for that top spot on Google, having a website just isn’t enough. We’re going to take a look at all of the ingredients a business needs to thrive in today’s tech-savvy world.

Does a business need a website?

Yes, your business does need a website. While this post is about a website not being enough, it’s still a fundamental part of a business - regardless of its size. A website is a digital store front, helps you reach more potential customers (around the world if you want it!) and can add a level of credibility to your company. But just setting up a website and showcasing your products and services isn’t enough.

A website is nothing without its content

You could have the best website in the world, but without high-quality content that answers your customers’ questions, it means nothing. Product images need to be clear and accurate, and have a description to match. The product description needs to be detailed and contain as much information as possible - no one-liners. With the rise of short videos like Instagram Reels and TikTok, adding a video to your website can increase visibility, and therefore traffic.

Don’t forget about SEO

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is the driving force behind your website getting found on search engines. While my packages included key word research and SEO-optimised content, there are SEO experts in the world. These folk can fine tune a website and help it be in the best possible position to get discovered. But when I create content for a website I will:

  • Always create unique content: Copy will alway be 100% unique. I do not use AI in the creation of my content - ever.

  • Make sure it’s easy to read and flows: Paragraphs are broken up and it’s simple to read and understand. As someone with experience in B2B transport, I have taken some very complex subjects and made them easy to read and simple to understand.

  • Make sure it’s relevant to you: I will only write content which you will have the authority to rank for. If you specialise in floristry, we aren’t going to start writing about car engines on your site (unless there’s a new one powered by petals).

Utilise social media

Social media can put you right in front of customers and give you a nice platform to advertise for free. You just need to know how to use it correctly. When you set up your social media pages, you should aim to follow a mix of other businesses in your field and customers who you want to attract. You will need to think about posting a mixture of pictures and videos, and how often you want to post - one picture a month is unlikely to get much engagement. You should also think about :

  • Using trending sounds

  • Adding an engaging caption

  • Understanding which hashtags to use

  • Posting regularly.
